Sweaty feet, as the name suggests, are feet that perspire. The feet have lots of sweat glands, and sweating is a normal mechanism that the body uses to cool down. Sometimes the amount of sweat produced may be excessive, this means that the amount of sweat produced exceeds that which is necessary to cool down; this is called hyperhidrosis.
Podiatry can help your child if they have sweaty feet by establishing what is normal, and then offering treatment advice on how best to resolve the problem if necessary.
Sweaty feet have many causes, for example:
In some cases the cause of excessive sweating may be related to a condition affecting the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for temperature regulation. If there is a problem with the sympathetic nervous system the body may produce more sweat than is required for cooling down purposes, quite often these children will also have sweaty palms, as well as other areas of the body.
If your child has sweaty feet and you feel that this is excessive, come and visit one of our podiatrists here at Manchester Podiatry for some help and advice. Our podiatrists are highly trained in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the foot and lower limb. Our friendly podiatrist will assess your child and devise a treatment plan as required.
