In podiatry gait analyses is a part of a biomechanical assessment, it is the examination of how someone walks, to be able to identify posture-related or movement-related concerns in relation to symptoms in the lower limb.
Gait analyses is part of a biomechanical assessment, it begins with the podiatrist taking details with regards to the presenting concern, a full medical and social history, alongside details on activity levels. The podiatrist will examine the joints in the foot and ankle whilst sitting, they will also observe the patient whilst standing and walking.
Once completed the podiatrist will discuss the outcome of the observations and any plan to be put in place. Advice following gait analyses often includes:
